We answer to following questions:

What is LeSuBiA ?

LeSuBiA is a large study made by the Federal Criminal Police Office, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

The LeSuBiA study collects information on violence in Germany.

People should be better protected from violence.

The extent of violence can be recorded in numbers.

The numbers can refer to reported crime and to unreported crime.

Reported crime means offences which have become known.

Unreported crime means offences which have not become known.

LeSuBiA examines all criminal offences, both reported and unreported offences.

Why is LeSuBiA carried out?

Germany signed an agreement on protection from violence.

The agreement is called Istanbul Convention.

The agreement binds Germany to protect women from violence and to combat violence.

The Istanbul Convention also needs data from Germany.

Figures on the spread and development of violence must be collected.

The prevention of violence and the protection from violence is also an important issue for the Federal Government.

How is LeSuBiA carried out?

LeSuBiA interviews many people in Germany.

The people are chosen by chance.

An interviewer contacts the persons and carries out the interview.

The survey started in July 2023.

It will take about one year to collect the data.

The results are expected in 2025.
