Besides purely acoustic material, all conceivable forms of text messages are an important source for the gathering of physical evidence. Often, articles taken from the offenders which at first sight appear insignificant can also take on an important role.

Overview

The extortionist's voice

The experts for speaker identification and audio analysis are usually called in at a very early stage of the crime. About two thirds of their requests for examination are already received in the initial phase of police inquiries.
Handwritten extortion letters

The BKA’s writing collection contains over 40,000 documents and over 20,000 sets of personal data. Documents which are subject to examination are sent to the KTI via the police reporting service in order to be able to establish or exclude investigative associations.
Analysis of writing materials

With messages written by offenders, the composition of the writing materials and the paper used can also be of interest, for example, as an additional attribute which can help determine the author on the basis of matching handwritings or mechanically produced prints and copies.
Authorship identification

Frequently, in cases where the extortionists establish contact by means of text, the authorship identification experts are in great demand, as this specialization is offered solely by the BKA.
Animal Hair

During the securing of case-related evidence, animal traces are also often found. Domestic animals are kept in approx. 34 percent of all German private households.
