The examination of written material of foreign authorship requires extensive experience with specific national writing styles and familiarity with handwriting patterns learned in school. Without this know-how, the handwriting examiner cannot distinguish between graphic peculiarities attributable to a given writer and those which reflect only copybook patterns.
