Bundeskriminalamt (BKA)

Research

Many research projects conducted at the BKA address current or fundamental police problems, such as:

  • research project Photograph-Based Searches
  • projects by the Terrorism/Extremism Research Unit
  • research project Photo Authenticity II

The results are published and made accessible to the various police authorities and/or police basic and advanced training centres.

Apart from this, scientific advice and support for the federal and state police agencies is of particular importance for crime strategy issues. Thus, themes are analysed regularly through interdisciplinary project work which could impact on future police work. The goal is to detect developments at an early stage and to identify approaches for reactions and crime prevention measures.

The BKA specifically supports the police authorities in charge of individual cases in the clarification of serious crimes, for example through case analyses and offender profiling (Behavioural Case Analysis).
